The persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh persists, with an ongoing atmosphere of fear following the killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das. Despite this, the violence in the South Asian country continues. The Sanatani Sansad recently held a press conference in Kolkata, shedding light on several instances of Hindus seeking refuge in India due to safety concerns in Bangladesh.
Among those highlighted was Bappaditya Basu, a key figure in the 2023 Shahbag movement in Bangladesh, who emphasized the need for restoring ‘Sonar Bangla’ (golden Bengal). Basu, who has been in hiding for over a year due to threats from Ansarullah Bangla organization, expressed a desire to return to his homeland along with others facing similar circumstances in India.
Basu urged the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to consider granting citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to persecuted Hindus seeking refuge in India. He called for support from the intellectual community in West Bengal, emphasizing the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh and the necessity for peace and stability.
Shankudev Panda, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), voiced solidarity with persecuted Hindus in Bangladesh and encouraged them to follow legal procedures through Sanatani Sansad to seek citizenship. The press conference also saw the presence of key figures including Gobinda Das, Raktim Das, Mohit Roy, Joydeep Mukhopadhyay, and others.
