Pilgrims have started arriving at the Yatri Transit Camp in Srinagar in preparation for the annual Amarnath Yatra. On-the-spot registration and RFID card issuance have begun in Jammu, with authorities confirming readiness for the pilgrimage’s first batch. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is set to flag off the initial group of pilgrims, officially launching the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
In Jammu, devotees are thrilled as the registration process kicks off. Expressing excitement, a pilgrim mentioned, “I am very excited; I did not expect that I would get a chance in the first batch.” The on-the-spot registration and RFID issuance procedures are being efficiently managed to ensure a smooth flow of pilgrims.
Token distribution for the Amarnath Yatra started at the Tawi River Front in Jammu, with 1,600 tokens issued on the first day. Of these, 800 tokens each were allocated for the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Pilgrims who received tokens will complete their registration before embarking on the pilgrimage. The system includes e-KYC and RFID registration to ensure transparency and crowd control.
Elaborate security measures have been implemented at the Tawi River Front for safe token distribution. Security personnel are overseeing the area closely. For the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, 18 on-the-spot registration and token counters have been set up in key locations across Jammu. Token generation begins daily at 6:00 a.m., with one token issued per eligible person.
The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start on July 3 and end on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. The holy cave shrine, situated at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the Anantnag district of the Kashmir Himalayas, is believed to house a naturally formed ice stalagmite representing Lord Shiva. Pilgrims can choose between the Pahalgam and Baltal routes for the journey, with the ice stalagmite formation inside the cave attracting devotees annually.
