Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal attributed the high voter turnout in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal elections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by the Election Commission of India. Goyal praised the significant increase in voting percentages in both states, noting unprecedented participation.
Goyal, also the BJP’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, highlighted a 15 to 20 percent rise in voter turnout compared to the last election in Tamil Nadu. He expressed satisfaction with the current voter engagement levels, emphasizing the impact of the SIR process on voter list accuracy.
The Union Minister emphasized the removal of fake and deceased voters through the SIR process, leading to improved electoral lists through technological advancements. He particularly noted the significance of this process in West Bengal, where non-Indian citizens and bogus voters were eliminated, enhancing the value of genuine votes.
Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to addressing illegal infiltrators in West Bengal, Goyal stated that steps have been taken to remove fake voters and illegal immigrants from voter lists, with future plans for their expulsion from the country. He expressed confidence in the NDA’s electoral success in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
