Plans are underway in Uttar Pradesh to relocate legislative operations to a modern Vidhan Bhawan designed in the shape of a lotus, resembling the BJP’s symbol. The new architectural landmark will cover around 200 acres in Lucknow’s upscale area, with construction expected to commence early next year.
Awanish K. Awasthi, the advisor to UP CM Yogi Adityanath, revealed images of the proposed lotus-inspired legislative building, offering a glimpse of the expansive structure that will serve as the state’s new administrative center. The design for the project, set to be constructed in Gomti Nagar, has received approval from various departments and is awaiting final authorization.
Reports indicate that 48 top consultancy firms have presented their master plans and designs for the project. After evaluating these proposals, the final design has been nearly confirmed, with the proposed layout already submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority for review.
The envisioned Legislative Assembly building will mimic lotus petals when viewed from above, with the central section accommodating chambers for the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council proceedings. Surrounding this core will be administrative offices and other support units, forming an integrated legislative and administrative complex with advanced facilities to meet future needs.
The upcoming Lotus-inspired Vidhan Bhawan in Sahara Shahar Gomti Nagar is expected to redefine Lucknow’s architectural landscape, offering a new identity to the city. The complex, spanning 200 acres, will feature a Legislative Assembly hall for 700 members, a Legislative Council with 200 seats, a joint session hall seating 1,000, and parking for over 5,000 vehicles.
Construction is slated to begin next year, marking a significant step towards modern governance and infrastructure development in Lucknow. The completion of this architectural landmark will not only centralize the state’s legislative activities but also enhance Lucknow’s profile with its unique design and contemporary outlook.
