In a speech to the Indian diaspora in Jakarta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly mentioned the prevalence of corruption and the “cut-money” system in West Bengal during the Trinamool Congress rule from 2011 to 2026. He emphasized the advantages of direct benefit transfers (DBT) implemented by his government, ensuring financial benefits reach beneficiaries’ bank accounts without any leakages or corrupt practices.
PM Modi emphasized the effectiveness of DBT in preventing leakages and cut-money, contrasting it with the alleged corruption in welfare schemes during the previous West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee. He expressed his vision for West Bengal under BJP rule, promising to eradicate the culture of corruption and ensure transparent fund utilization under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s leadership.
During election rallies before the recent West Bengal assembly polls, PM Modi had strongly criticized corruption in centrally sponsored schemes in the state. He accused Trinamool Congress leaders of exploiting these schemes for personal gain through leakages and cut-money practices. Modi pledged to eliminate such corruption if the BJP gained power in West Bengal.
