Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in productive discussions with French President Immanuel Macron, leading to an elevation of ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation in crucial areas such as defense, technology, space, security, counter-terrorism, and innovation.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of bolstering people-to-people connections, with PM Modi expressing gratitude to President Macron for facilitating visa-free transit for Indian nationals at French airports. The leaders explored avenues to boost talent and student mobility between the two nations and expand mutual recognition of educational qualifications.
Additionally, they agreed to enhance collaboration in museums and cultural institutions, including the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal, Gujarat. Discussions also revolved around cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, leading to the establishment of a Joint India-France AI Working Group.
Furthermore, the leaders deliberated on strengthening ties in the SME, aviation, and railway sectors. They welcomed the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Skilling in Aeronautics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The leaders also exchanged views on global matters during a lunch hosted by Macron, including the situations in West Asia and Ukraine.
PM Modi expressed anticipation for the G7 Summit in Evian and appreciated President Macron’s engagement with India in substantive discussions preceding the summit. Both leaders reiterated the importance of the India-France Special Global Strategic Partnership in fostering opportunities for their citizens and promoting international peace, stability, and prosperity.
During the meeting, PM Modi and President Macron admired the artworks of French artists Thibault De La Lance and Theophile de Bascher, created during their art residency in Jaipur. These works, inspired by Indian heritage and aesthetics, symbolize the cultural blend of India and France.
