Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited the Prambanan Temple, the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, together. PM Modi shared a picture with President Subianto on their way to the temple from Yogyakarta and also posted a video of the temple from a helicopter’s view. The leaders will jointly inaugurate a conservation and restoration project at the UNESCO World Heritage Site during their visit.
Built in the 10th century, the Prambanan Temple complex is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva and features temples devoted to the Hindu trinity. The temple walls are adorned with intricate reliefs depicting scenes from the Ramayana, showcasing the cultural and spiritual ties between India and Southeast Asia. PM Modi highlighted the deep-rooted civilisational connections between India and Indonesia, emphasizing shared historical and cultural legacies.
India and Indonesia exchanged a Letter of Intent for a conservation project at the Prambanan Temple complex, underscoring their commitment to preserving common cultural heritage. The leaders discussed ways to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ensure a peaceful Indo-Pacific during their talks. PM Modi’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and celebrate the shared history and cultural heritage between the two nations.
