Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Norway for the fourth leg of his five-nation tour, where he was warmly received by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. The visit includes attending the India-Nordic Summit and engaging in bilateral discussions. This trip marks PM Modi’s first visit to Norway and the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to the country in over four decades.
PM Modi is scheduled to meet with King Harald V and Queen Sonja, as well as hold talks with PM Jonas Gahr Store. Additionally, he will participate in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit alongside his Norwegian counterpart. The visit aims to review and enhance India-Norway relations, focusing on trade, investment, clean technology, and the blue economy.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the visit seeks to boost bilateral trade valued at around USD 2.73 billion by 2024. It also aims to encourage investments from Norway’s Government Pension Fund, which currently stands at nearly USD 28 billion in the Indian capital market. India and Norway have maintained friendly relations since establishing bilateral ties in February 1947, with a shared commitment to democracy, diversity, women’s empowerment, human rights, and the rule of law.
