Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Rome for an official visit to Italy, marking a significant step in the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. He was warmly welcomed at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani of Italy. During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss enhancing India-Italy cooperation, with a focus on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.
Earlier, PM Modi concluded his visit to Norway after attending the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo. This visit to Italy follows his last trip to the country in June 2024 for the G7 Summit. The current visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, with a particular emphasis on implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, fostering trade, investment, defence, security, clean energy, innovation, and people-to-people connections between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that PM Modi’s visit will deepen India’s partnership with Europe, especially in trade and investment, following the recent India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The visit underscores the strong momentum in bilateral relations, with a focus on various sectors such as trade, investment, defence, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.
