Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to Venezuela as a significant ally in Latin America, highlighting the crucial nature of India-Venezuela collaboration for the Global South community. During a meeting with Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, discussions encompassed expanding cooperation in various sectors such as energy, critical minerals, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people connections. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the close ties between the two nations for mutual benefits.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Rodriguez held discussions at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi, with the presence of EAM Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other officials. MEA’s Secretary (East), Rudrendra Tandon, described the talks between the leaders as substantive and businesslike. Venezuela views India as a stable energy consumer, with a focus on a long-term energy partnership.
During the meeting, the Venezuelan delegation acknowledged India’s consistent support and expressed a preference for India as a future partner. The discussions also delved into expanding economic collaboration beyond the energy sector to areas like mining, animal husbandry, transportation, agriculture, automotive, and pharmaceuticals. Both sides explored opportunities for Indian businesses to enter the Venezuelan market successfully.
