The Prime Minister’s Office officials extended congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for achieving the milestone of being India’s longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister. PM Modi was praised for his leadership marked by stability, transparency, and a strong commitment to good governance and national progress over the past twelve years. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. P. K. Mishra, and Principal Secretary-2, Shaktikanta Das, also welcomed PM Modi on this occasion.
PM Modi surpassed former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister. Nehru’s tenure from 1952 onwards was considered for comparison, as he led an interim government before the first general elections in India. PM Modi’s continuous tenure sets him apart, making him the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the country’s history, from his first term in 2014 to his third consecutive term in 2024.
The Union Cabinet, earlier in the day, passed a resolution commending PM Modi for this historic achievement. Members of the Cabinet honored the Prime Minister with a standing ovation, recognizing his service and the public trust he has garnered. The resolution highlighted the significance of this milestone in showcasing India’s democratic values and the overwhelming support from the public towards a leader committed to the nation’s welfare.
The era under PM Modi’s leadership has seen significant infrastructure and nation-building projects, including the new Parliament building, Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, Namo Bharat RRTS, and Ganga Expressway.
