Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Prosperity Party for their significant victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections. PM Modi emphasized the strong and enduring relationship between India and Ethiopia, expressing eagerness to enhance their Strategic Partnership further. The ruling Prosperity Party emerged victorious in Ethiopia’s recent General Election, paving the way for the formation of a new government.

PM Modi’s message highlighted the historical and deep-rooted connections between India and Ethiopia, recalling his visit to the country last year. He underscored the importance of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The National Election Board of Ethiopia confirmed the Prosperity Party’s win in the parliamentary elections, securing a majority of seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives.

The official results announced in Addis Ababa revealed the Prosperity Party’s success in clinching a significant number of seats in the lower chamber of Ethiopia’s parliament. As per Ethiopia’s constitutional mandate, the winning party is tasked with forming the government and nominating the Prime Minister. PM Modi’s visit to Ethiopia in December further invigorated the bilateral ties between India and Ethiopia, focusing on areas such as digital infrastructure, mining, clean energy, and agriculture.
