Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Balendra Shah for taking office as Nepal’s Prime Minister. Shah, the parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, received this appointment following his recent election victory. PM Modi expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Shah to enhance the friendship and cooperation between India and Nepal for the benefit of both nations.
Nepal’s President, Ram Chandra Paudel, officially appointed Balendra Shah, also known as Balen, as the new Prime Minister in accordance with the country’s Constitution. The RSP, under Shah’s leadership, achieved a significant victory in the parliamentary elections, securing a substantial majority. This paved the way for Shah to assume the role of Nepal’s 47th Prime Minister.
Balendra Shah, at 35 years old, is among the youngest individuals to hold the position of Prime Minister in Nepal’s history. His emergence into national politics last year led to a notable shift in the country’s political landscape, with a surge in support for the RSP. Shah’s popularity among the youth played a crucial role in the party’s success in the recent elections, where they won 182 out of 275 parliamentary seats.
Shah’s victory over former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli by a significant margin in the elections marked a historic moment, with Shah securing the highest number of votes in Nepal’s parliamentary elections since 1991. His entry into politics in 2022, starting as the mayor of Kathmandu, showcased his commitment to public service and governance. Shah’s educational background in engineering has influenced his governance style, particularly in areas like infrastructure and urban development.
