Modi expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with Mottley to enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Barbados. Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party achieved a remarkable feat by winning all seats in the House of Assembly for the third successive general election, granting Mottley another resounding 30-0 victory. In response to this triumph, Mottley declared a national public holiday and organized a thanksgiving and celebration event at the National Botanical Gardens.
Following the election victory, Mottley announced a national bank holiday in Barbados and invited citizens to a celebratory rally at the National Botanical Gardens. Emphasizing the significance of the event, she encouraged participation in the festivities, symbolizing unity and national pride.
During a meeting in November 2024 at the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana, PM Modi and PM Mottley discussed collaboration in various critical areas such as health, pharmaceuticals, climate change, culture, and people-to-people connections. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between India and Barbados, underpinned by their Commonwealth membership, shared language, and mutual passion for cricket.
India and Barbados actively engage in international forums like the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and the Non-Aligned Movement, demonstrating their commitment to global cooperation. Barbados has pledged its backing for India’s quest for a Permanent Membership in the United Nations Security Council, showcasing the close partnership between the two nations in multilateral settings.
