Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of secure and resilient supply chains in critical sectors like semiconductors, energy, and minerals due to global crises causing disruptions. He mentioned how conflicts have impacted the flow of goods and raw materials worldwide, affecting items such as chips, rare earth minerals, and energy. PM Modi stressed the need for India to lead in ensuring continuity and resilience in these vital sectors, especially in light of challenges faced in the 21st century.
The Prime Minister recalled India’s strategic decision during the Covid-19 pandemic to enhance self-reliance and become a global hub in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, electric vehicles, defense, and electronics. He also discussed the India Semiconductor Mission, launched in 2021, as a reflection of India’s confidence and ambition, with ongoing semiconductor projects worth Rs 1.6 lakh crore across six states. PM Modi highlighted the announcement of India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 in the recent Union Budget, focusing on domestic semiconductor material and equipment production to establish a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
PM Modi further emphasized the importance of global partnerships to strengthen supply chains, mentioning India’s involvement in Pax Silica. He outlined the National Critical Minerals Mission aimed at achieving self-reliance in critical minerals through mining and production initiatives, including a rare earth corridor spanning Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The Prime Minister mentioned the introduction of a Rs 1,500 crore scheme for mineral recycling and the establishment of a national repository of critical minerals, emphasizing India’s commitment to executing these initiatives in mission mode for the country’s progress.
