Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of India’s traditional arts in driving societal empowerment and economic advancement during the 129th episode of his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’. One such example is the lace craft of Narasapuram district in Andhra Pradesh, which has gained popularity nationwide, providing employment to around one lakh women.
PM Modi praised the efforts in Andhra Pradesh where the lace craft, now with new designs and market connections, has received the GI Tag. Over 500 products are being made from this craft, benefiting women in more than 250 villages. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of platforms like Mann Ki Baat in showcasing individuals who promote traditional arts while empowering local communities through their work.
In Manipur, PM Modi mentioned Margaret Ramtharsiem from Churachandpur, who transformed traditional products into a means of livelihood for over 50 artists. He also commended Chokhone Krichena from Senapati district, who expanded traditional farming into floriculture, empowering local communities through market connections. Modi encouraged sharing similar success stories to inspire others towards economic progress through traditional knowledge and modern vision.
Shifting focus to India’s diverse festivals, PM Modi highlighted the ongoing Kutch Ranotsav in the Rann of Kutch, showcasing the region’s folk culture, music, dance, and handicrafts. He urged people to participate in such festivals to experience the country’s rich cultural diversity and celebrate local traditions throughout the year.
