Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor, at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg involved discussions on various topics, including sports. PM Modi later shared highlights of the interaction on social media.
During the meeting, PM Modi acknowledged Neeraj Chopra’s achievements, including being awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Neeraj Chopra, a javelin ace, secured India’s first Olympic gold medal in track and field at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He also clinched gold at the World Athletics Championships in 2023 and a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Neeraj Chopra received an honorary commission in the Territorial Army from President Droupadi Murmu in April 2025. His accolades include the Padma Shri, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal for his remarkable service to the nation.
Neeraj Chopra’s recent successes include victories in various competitions in 2025, such as the Paris Diamond League and the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru. Notably, he set a new milestone by becoming the first Indian to surpass the 90m mark in an international event with a remarkable 90.23m throw at the Doha Diamond League. PM Modi praised Chopra’s dedication and described the achievement as a moment of national pride.
