Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-km Ganga Expressway, a significant greenfield project in India completed in less than 3.5 years. The expressway links Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh with Prayagraj in the east, with Adani Road Transport Limited developing a majority of the alignment. This project aims to boost development in eastern UP, enhancing connectivity and economic prospects.
The Ganga Expressway is expected to reduce travel time from 11 hours to six hours, fostering economic growth and providing advanced road safety features. A dedicated Emergency Landing Facility for the Indian Air Force has been developed in Shahjahanpur district, enhancing strategic capabilities. The six-lane expressway, expandable to eight lanes, will improve access to various essential services and markets.
With over 12,000 workers involved in the construction, the expressway is set to generate significant annual logistics savings and create numerous job opportunities. It is projected to contribute significantly to Uttar Pradesh’s GDP and enhance trade flows, benefiting farmers and small businesses. The corridor will also improve industrial connectivity and boost spiritual tourism, benefiting millions of people across the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiative to establish industrial corridors across 12 districts, including Meerut, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, is expected to create millions of jobs. The improved connectivity to major tourist destinations is set to boost the spiritual tourism economy significantly. Overall, the Ganga Expressway is poised to drive economic growth and enhance connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.
