Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated seven redeveloped railway stations in Odisha under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The stations include Balangir, Barpali, Paralakhemundi, Talcher, Kesinga, Baripada, and Bimalgarh. These stations, modernized at a cost of approximately Rs 109 crore, aim to enhance passenger convenience and preserve regional cultural identity.
The redevelopment of these stations focuses on improving passenger amenities such as modern buildings, upgraded waiting halls, and digital passenger information systems. Facilities like Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) with lift provisions have been provided for barrier-free accessibility. The station designs incorporate local art, culture, and architectural elements to reflect the unique heritage of each region.
The redeveloped stations are expected to boost passenger convenience, regional connectivity, and promote tourism and local economic development. This initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ vision of creating world-class railway infrastructure. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved two railway projects in Odisha to enhance rail connectivity and capacity, benefiting several districts and villages.
