Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the first World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad, expressing confidence in Yogasana’s potential for international multi-sport competitions, including the Olympics. He highlighted the championship as a significant step in establishing Yogasana as a recognized global sporting discipline.

Attended by over 400 athletes from 60 nations, the event, held from June 4 to 8, aims to provide Yogasana with a platform as a competitive sport. PM Modi emphasized the economic opportunities that could arise with the growth of Yogasana sports, mentioning the potential for new employment opportunities and the development of a sports ecosystem.

Efforts to gain wider international recognition for Yogasana have been on the rise, with the championship following standardized competition rules and featuring athletes across various age categories and disciplines. The event also incorporates an electronic scoring system to enhance transparency and judging consistency at the international level.

PM Modi commended all participants as champions, contributing to what he described as an important chapter in sporting history. He expressed optimism that the performances at the championship would serve as inspiration for young individuals worldwide.
