Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized India’s appeal as a top investment, innovation, and manufacturing hub, urging European firms to strengthen ties with the country. Speaking at the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg, PM Modi highlighted the increasing alignment between India and Europe, underscoring the significance of reliable partnerships in a complex global landscape.
PM Modi welcomed the positive trajectory in India-EU relations, including the recent finalization of talks for the significant India-EU Free Trade Agreement. This agreement is seen as a transformative economic alliance that will unlock fresh prospects in trade, technology, manufacturing, services, and robust supply chains.
The Prime Minister also spotlighted India’s rapid economic progress and forward-looking reforms, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business, fostering a dynamic manufacturing environment, and swiftly modernizing infrastructure.
Highlighting India’s vision of ‘Design for India, Make in India and Export from India,’ PM Modi encouraged European enterprises to boost investments in key sectors like telecom, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, green technologies, healthcare, and more. He stressed the need for India and Europe to collaborate on building resilient and diverse supply chains.
Moreover, PM Modi outlined India’s ambitious plans for infrastructure and energy transition, including substantial investments in transport, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and nuclear power. He also emphasized the importance of fostering talent mobility, educational partnerships, and skill development between India and Europe to leverage India’s young and skilled workforce for global economic growth.
Additionally, PM Modi proposed the annual convening of the India-Europe CEOs Roundtable and suggested establishing an India Desk at the ERT. The event, hosted by Volvo Group, was attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, senior European industry leaders, and representatives from prominent European and Indian companies.
