Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Mission Drishti as a significant achievement in India’s space exploration journey. The successful launch of the world’s first OptoSAR satellite, by GalaxEye, showcases the enthusiasm of Indian youth for innovation and national progress.

PM Modi commended the team involved in the project and emphasized the advancement of India’s technological capabilities. The Bengaluru-based startup, GalaxEye, deployed its inaugural commercial satellite, Drishti, into orbit via Falcon 9, marking a notable stride in Earth observation technology.

Described as the “world’s first OptoSAR satellite,” Mission Drishti weighs approximately 190 kg and stands as the largest privately developed Earth observation satellite in India. It integrates Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors into a single operational platform, enabling imaging in all weather conditions, day and night.

The satellite’s innovative “SyncFused OptoSAR” payload, as termed by GalaxEye, merges optical imaging with radar technology. This integration allows for imaging capabilities unaffected by cloud cover or darkness, offering continuous operation for enhanced data collection.
