They highlighted the importance of countering radicalization, violent extremism, and the financing of terrorism through information sharing and capacity building. The leaders also underscored the significance of cooperation in addressing transnational organized crime and strengthening bilateral and multilateral counterterrorism initiatives.
Recognizing the nexus between terrorism and transnational organized crime, both leaders pledged to enhance collaboration in this area by sharing information and best practices. They reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering defense ties through regular exchanges, staff talks, and joint exercises, including the Malaysia-India Defence Cooperation Committee. Additionally, they welcomed India’s active participation in the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus framework and the co-chairmanship with Malaysia of the Counter-Terrorism Working Group.
PM Modi and Anwar Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the growing maritime cooperation between their countries, highlighting the significance of naval interactions and joint military exercises. They also discussed enhancing mobility for workers and professionals between India and Malaysia, emphasizing the positive impact of visa liberalization on tourism and business travel. The leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening air connectivity and further deepening bilateral relations.
