Marking ’12 years of Naya Bharat Nirman,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significant infrastructure progress in India over the past decade. The government remains dedicated to constructing advanced infrastructure to achieve the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of connectivity and opportunities in a nation’s strength, citing the country’s infrastructure advancements.
The Prime Minister shared a post by ‘MyGovIndia’ showcasing India’s infrastructure achievements in the last 12 years. The post emphasized how India’s road infrastructure has expanded, with National Highways’ length increasing from 91,287 km to 1,46,572 km. The pace of highway construction has also significantly risen during this period.
India’s railway infrastructure has seen notable growth, with broad gauge electrification increasing from 20% in 2014 to 99.6% in 2026. The country now boasts one of the world’s largest electrified railway networks. Additionally, the development and modernization of over 1,330 Amrit Bharat stations are underway.
MyGovIndia highlighted the transformation in rail travel with Vande Bharat trains, offering improved speed, comfort, and efficiency. The expansion of India’s metro network from 248 km to 1,155 km has significantly enhanced urban transportation. The UDAN scheme has made air travel more accessible and affordable, with the number of operational airports increasing to 164.
India’s ports have shown remarkable progress, handling a record 915 million tonnes of cargo in FY26. The Sagarmala program has completed 315 projects, enhancing maritime infrastructure. Notably, nine Indian ports now rank among the world’s top 100 ports, showcasing India’s growing maritime strength.
Waterways have emerged as a crucial aspect of multimodal connectivity, with India notifying 111 National Waterways. The operational waterways and ferry projects have significantly improved connectivity and benefited millions of passengers across the country.
