Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in Melbourne to discuss the progress achieved under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They reflected on the strengthening of bilateral ties during Morrison’s tenure in office. The Ministry of External Affairs shared that the two leaders reviewed the significant advancement in bilateral relations and fondly recalled the milestones achieved during Morrison’s term, which continue to deepen cooperation between India and Australia.
Following the meeting, Morrison expressed confidence in the future of India-Australia relations, thanking PM Modi for elevating the relationship to its highest level. He also mentioned PM Modi’s inquiry about his interest in cooking Indian cuisine, adding a lighter touch to their interaction. PM Modi and Morrison last met in person during the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Washington in September 2021 and held the second India-Australia Virtual Summit in March 2022 to review cooperation across various sectors.
Earlier, Morrison congratulated PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, praising his leadership and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Currently on a three-nation tour, PM Modi is in Australia for the second leg of his trip and will proceed to New Zealand to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across key sectors.
