PM Modi, in a social media post, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and supporters of Dr. Syngkon. The sudden demise of Dr. Syngkon, who collapsed while playing football and later passed away despite medical efforts, has saddened many in Meghalaya.
Dr. Syngkon, a first-time MP from the Voice of the People Party (VPP), won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with a significant victory margin. His advocacy on indigenous rights and governance had made him a prominent political figure in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, and other political leaders rushed to the hospital to pay their respects. Dr. Syngkon’s unexpected death has left a void in both state and national politics, especially within the VPP.
