Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Rabindranath Tagore, recognizing him as a versatile figure who influenced various esteemed institutions through his writings and ideas. Tagore, a polymath of the Bengal Renaissance era, achieved the distinction of being the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in 1913 and the initial non-European lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. PM Modi, during the 133rd episode of his monthly radio show, Mann Ki Baat, emphasized Tagore’s upcoming birth anniversary celebrations on May 9, underscoring his multifaceted nature as a writer, thinker, and institution builder.
Modi praised Tagore’s advocacy for industries that offered sustainable employment and uplifted villages, noting the enduring global popularity of Rabindra Sangeet, Tagore’s musical compositions. The Prime Minister reminisced about his visits to Shantiniketan, the institution nurtured by Tagore, expressing deep respect for the legacy the poet left behind. Modi concluded by linking the month of May to the historical significance of the First War of Independence in 1857, lauding the courage of those who instilled patriotism during that period.
In his message, PM Modi encouraged school children enjoying their vacations to embrace new learning experiences and prioritize their health during the summer season. He urged everyone to make the most of the holiday period while staying mindful of their well-being.
