Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam as a unique initiative that celebrates India’s diverse traditions while honoring their distinct identities. He highlighted the event’s role in promoting the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. During a recent visit to the Somnath Temple, PM Modi interacted with participants who had been part of both the Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam and the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam.
The Prime Minister expressed regret for not learning Tamil earlier in his life but noted the government’s efforts to promote Tamil culture and the spirit of unity. He emphasized the cultural significance of a Sangam or confluence in Indian traditions, with the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam symbolizing the unity of diverse traditions while respecting their unique identities. PM Modi highlighted the deep connection between Kashi and Tamil culture, citing historical and spiritual ties.
PM Modi recalled the inception of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam in 2022 and its subsequent editions that aimed to deepen engagement and evolve while staying true to its core spirit. He mentioned the use of technology in later editions to overcome language barriers and the focus on Indian knowledge systems. The Prime Minister detailed the fourth edition’s theme of ‘Tamil Karkalam – Learn Tamil’ that provided a platform for learning the language in Kashi.
The Prime Minister lauded the enthusiastic participation of young people in the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, showcasing their talent and creativity. He appreciated the efforts to ensure a memorable experience for participants, including special trains from Tamil Nadu to Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi expressed gratitude to the people of Kashi and Uttar Pradesh for their warmth and hospitality towards the delegates. He highlighted the platform’s role in strengthening cultural understanding and fostering national integration.
