In his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Moirangthem Seth, a Manipur resident, for his efforts in introducing solar power to numerous homes in the state. Seth, under 40 years old, tackled the electricity issue in his remote Manipur area by championing local solutions, particularly solar power. Manipur’s conducive environment for solar energy prompted Seth to initiate a campaign for installing solar panels, benefiting hundreds of households in the region.
The Prime Minister highlighted how Seth’s initiative not only provided electricity but also enhanced essential services and livelihoods in Manipur. By leveraging solar power, health care facilities and livelihoods, especially for women, have significantly improved in the region. Local fishermen and artists have also reaped the benefits of Seth’s endeavor, showcasing the broader positive impact of his actions.
Additionally, PM Modi mentioned the government’s flagship rooftop solar scheme, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which offers financial aid of approximately Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000 per beneficiary family for solar panel installation. This scheme aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity monthly to around one crore households through rooftop solar panels, reducing electricity expenses and promoting energy self-sufficiency. Seth’s personal efforts are seen as a catalyst for advancing solar power initiatives, receiving recognition and best wishes from the Prime Minister.
