As the NDA government marked its 12th year in power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s dedication to the welfare and prosperity of farmers, emphasizing their crucial role in the nation’s food security and economic growth. Through social media, PM Modi highlighted initiatives such as PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Crop Insurance Scheme, aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing agriculture. He also praised the effectiveness of programs like Kisan Credit Cards and the “Seed to Market” initiative in empowering farmers and ensuring fair prices for their produce.
Over the past 12 years, the government has rolled out various schemes to boost farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural sector. Notable programs include PM-KISAN, which provides financial aid to eligible farmers, and initiatives like PM Matsya Sampada Yojana and the National Livestock Mission to diversify farmers’ income sources. Additionally, efforts such as PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and the Soil Health Card Scheme have improved irrigation facilities and soil management practices, contributing to enhanced crop productivity.
Furthermore, the government’s focus on modern agricultural facilities, including campaigns on drones, soil health cards, and natural fertilizers, has helped farmers increase their crop yields. Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana have provided crop insurance and pension benefits to farmers, ensuring financial security. With the Minimum Support Price fixed at 1.5 times the production cost for major crops, farmers are receiving better returns, leading to a significant rise in foodgrain production in India.
India’s agricultural achievements, including becoming the world’s largest rice producer, underscore the vital role of farmers in the country’s growth and development. The government’s efforts have not only supported farmers’ livelihoods but also positioned them as key contributors to national progress and economic prosperity.
