Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently assessed the impact of heavy rainfall in Gujarat during a discussion with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The Central Government pledged full support for rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected Valsad district. The state government confirmed PM Modi’s assurance of assistance in rescue, relief, and public safety operations in the affected regions.

To address the escalating crisis in Valsad due to continuous monsoon downpours, additional disaster response teams have been deployed. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively involved in rescue operations in the district. Furthermore, more NDRF teams are en route from New Delhi to bolster the response efforts.

In a coordinated response, an Army contingent comprising 70 personnel with five boats is being dispatched to aid in rescue operations in Valsad. Additionally, a 25-member fire service team will support local authorities in managing the flood situation. The reinforcement of response teams follows extensive reviews by the Gujarat government as heavy rainfall persists in South Gujarat.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar to evaluate the situation and strategize with officials and district collectors. He directed the deployment of additional NDRF teams if necessary and instructed the relocation of residents from vulnerable areas in Surat and Navsari districts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also assured the state of essential support from the Central Government for ongoing rescue operations.

The heavy rainfall has led to significant disruptions in South Gujarat, particularly in Valsad where multiple areas are submerged. In neighboring districts like Dang, Navsari, and Tapi, adverse weather conditions have prompted road closures, dam overflows, and evacuations. With the India Meteorological Department predicting more heavy rainfall, authorities are closely monitoring the situation while rescue and relief operations continue in full swing.
