Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by top Union government officials, is set to participate in the swearing-in event of the new Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government in Assam on Tuesday. PM Modi arrived in Guwahati on Monday night for the ceremony, being welcomed by Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP President Dilip Saikia, and other officials at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
Himanta Biswa Sarma oversaw the arrangements at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara in preparation for the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 12. He mentioned the presence of key NDA leaders and party workers from Assam at the event. Notable figures like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to grace the occasion.
Security measures have been heightened at the venue due to the attendance of PM Modi and other political dignitaries. The Khanapara area has witnessed the placement of barricades, traffic diversions, and extensive security deployments. Thousands of BJP workers, including grassroots karyakartas from Assam, are anticipated to partake in the ceremony, reflecting the party’s strong support base in the region.
Following the swearing-in, the new government plans to convene its first Cabinet meeting promptly. Sarma emphasized that fulfilling the BJP’s electoral promises and advancing the development agenda will be the administration’s primary focus in its fresh term. The BJP-led NDA’s resounding victory in the recent Assam Assembly elections has paved the way for Sarma’s reappointment as Chief Minister for a second consecutive tenure.
