Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on March 1 to unveil and lay the foundation stone for various development projects totaling over Rs 7,000 crore. He will kick off his visit by arriving in Chennai on Saturday evening. On Sunday, PM Modi will inaugurate projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry and address the public gathered for the occasion. Later that day, he will head to Madurai to launch projects valued at over Rs 4,400 crore and engage with the local community at a public meeting.
In Madurai, the Prime Minister will also visit the Arulmigu Subramaniyaswamy Temple, Tirupparankundram, to offer prayers. Among the projects to be initiated are the four-laning of Marakkanam–Puducherry Section of NH-332A and the Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram Section of NH-87. The four-laning of the Marakkanam–Puducherry section aims to alleviate traffic congestion in urban areas of Puducherry and reduce travel time by almost 50%, from one hour to about 30 minutes. Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate rail infrastructure projects focused on enhancing passenger convenience, operational efficiency, and strengthening rail-based connectivity in the State.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will unveil eight redeveloped railway stations in Tamil Nadu under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations include Morappur, Bommidi, Srivilliputtur, Sholavandan, Manaparai, Pollachi Junction, Karaikkudi Junction, and Thiruvarur Junction. In Puducherry, PM Modi will dedicate the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Estate to the nation. This estate will host various facilities such as a Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park, a research and development center of IIT Madras, and advanced healthcare amenities of JIPMER, aiming to significantly boost industrial growth and employment opportunities in the region.
