Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan on Ravidass Jayanti to strengthen the Dalit vote bank in Punjab ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. The Dera holds significant influence in the state’s Doaba region, encompassing Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Kapurthala districts. PM Modi will spend around 45 minutes at the dera with Sant Niranjan Das, the revered saint of the Ravidassia community.
As part of his tour schedule, PM Modi will arrive at Adampur airport and then proceed to the sect in a helicopter. This visit comes in the backdrop of the Prime Minister’s previous visit to Adampur in 2025, following India and Pakistan’s ceasefire agreement. During this visit, PM Modi is expected to rename Adampur’s civil airport after Guru Ravidass Maharaj, honoring the sentiments of the community concentrated in Punjab’s Doaba region.
The Doaba region, comprising 23 out of 117 Assembly seats, holds significant political importance, with Dera Sachkhand Ballan directly influencing at least 19 seats. Additionally, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate the new terminal of Halwara airport in Ludhiana. This move to rename Adampur airport on the occasion of Sant Guru Ravidass’s birth anniversary is a tribute to the revered saint’s teachings of equality and compassion.
The renaming of Adampur airport and the inauguration of the terminal at Halwara aim to enhance aviation infrastructure in Punjab. Halwara, situated in Ludhiana district, houses a crucial Indian Air Force station and the new civil enclave with an extended runway to accommodate larger aircraft. Sant Niranjan Das, the spiritual head of the Ravidassia community, has been instrumental in promoting the teachings of Sant Guru Ravidass Maharaj worldwide.
