Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit West Bengal for a two-day trip later this month, as per BJP leaders in Kolkata. On June 20, he is expected to address a gathering in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, marking the ‘Bengal Foundation Day’. This day holds historical significance as in 1947, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee proposed the partition of the province, integrating West Bengal into India.
The Bengal Foundation Day celebration on June 20 was announced by the new BJP-led state government, replacing the previous celebration of “Polia Boishakh.” While there was opposition from Mamata Banerjee due to the painful memories of partition, the BJP emphasized the importance of linking the state’s foundation day to its historical context. The Prime Minister’s visit schedule includes attending a program in Kolkata on June 21 for the ‘International Day of Yoga’.
Confirming the Prime Minister’s visit, local BJP legislator Santu Pan mentioned that PM Modi is expected to address a gathering in Tarakeswar at 2 p.m. on June 20. Following his activities in Tarakeswar, he will spend the night in Kolkata at Lok Bhavan before attending the International Yoga Day event at Netaji Indoor Stadium in central Kolkata.
