Chandigarh, Aug 2 (IANS) Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyaan’ as a landmark initiative aimed at protecting the country’s youth from substance abuse and laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous India.

Dhillon said that PM Modi has consistently demonstrated his commitment to safeguarding the younger generation from the scourge of drug addiction.

He emphasised that the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ can only be realised when the country’s youth are physically healthy, mentally resilient and guided by strong values.

He said the campaign would play a transformative role in inspiring millions of young people to reject drugs and contribute positively to nation-building.

Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in Punjab, Dhillon criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government, alleging that it had failed to honour its promise of eradicating the drug menace within three months of assuming office.

He claimed that despite being in power for more than four-and-a-half years, the state government has failed to effectively tackle the problem.

“While the Narendra Modi-led Central government is taking concrete and sustained measures to combat drug abuse, the AAP government in Punjab is merely engaging in publicity campaigns and presenting misleading claims instead of delivering tangible results,” Dhillon said in a statement.

He claimed the drug network has continued to expand, devastating families and jeopardising the future of Punjab’s youth.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney, through his NGO, Sun Foundation, where 5,000 youth were virtually connected from Delhi and various skill centres and rehab centres in Punjab with ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyaan’, said he would start a campaign against drugs in Punjab under the leadership of PM Modi, where five lakh youth from Punjab will take pledge against drugs.

He reiterated that his NGO is running 12 drug rehab centres in Punjab where complete transformation of drug addicts is being done through yoga, meditation, gym, sports activities, and skilling them for livelihoods.
