The ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ is becoming increasingly popular in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, with over 700 houses already equipped with solar panels. This initiative, backed by the Central government, aims to provide affordable and clean energy, leading to reduced electricity bills for beneficiaries and a positive impact on the environment.
Anuj Gupta, Assistant Executive Engineer at the Power Development Department (PDD) in Udhampur, mentioned that more than 700 rooftop solar panels have been set up in the district, with additional installations planned. Gupta highlighted the significant cost savings experienced by households that have adopted solar energy, emphasizing the scheme’s potential to lower electricity expenses and promote clean power generation.
Beneficiaries of the scheme, like Satish Khajuria and Raghav Chauhan, shared their positive experiences. Khajuria highlighted the financial benefits of installing solar panels under the scheme, mentioning reduced electricity bills and government subsidies. Chauhan also noted a substantial decrease in his monthly electricity expenses after adopting solar power, showcasing the tangible advantages of the program.
Rajesh Chauhan praised the scheme for its effectiveness in lowering electricity bills, echoing the sentiments of other beneficiaries who have witnessed significant savings. Women, including Renu Khajuria, expressed satisfaction with the scheme, emphasizing the noticeable reduction in household electricity costs and the ease with which daily tasks are now accomplished using solar energy.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, initiated in 2024, is designed to offer free electricity to households nationwide.
