The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been relocated from the South Block building to a newly constructed ‘Seva Teerth’. This move signifies a significant milestone in the office’s history and reflects a shift in public perception since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office. The renaming and relocation of the PMO to ‘Seva Teerth’ is part of a broader effort by the Modi government to emphasize public service in its governance approach.
The new ‘Seva Teerth’ complex not only houses the PMO but also accommodates offices like the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Advisor’s office, and India House. Additionally, Kartayva Bhavans 1 & 2 have been inaugurated to integrate high-profile ministries like Defence and External Affairs. This strategic move underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing citizen-centric governance and moving away from colonial-era symbols.
The renaming of Rajpath to Kartavya Path in 2022 and the renaming of the Prime Minister’s residence to Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016 are part of a broader initiative to emphasize duty over entitlement. These changes symbolize the government’s focus on public welfare and national priorities. With ‘Seva Teerth’ now serving as the new address for the PMO, the government aims to establish institutions rooted in Indian values of responsibility and public service.
