Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton shined with half-centuries as Mumbai Indians triumphed over Kolkata Knight Riders in their season-opener after 13 years in the Indian Premier League. Shardul Thakur’s 3-39 and a strong batting display helped Mumbai Indians secure a six-wicket win in Match 2 of IPL 2026. Chasing 221, Mumbai Indians reached 224/4 in 19.1 overs at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma’s explosive 78 off 38 balls and Rickelton’s quick 81 off 43 balls set the tone for Mumbai’s victory. Rohit’s remarkable innings included a 23-ball fifty, his fastest in IPL, with five sixes and three fours. Rickelton matched him shot for shot, reaching his fifty off 24 balls with two fours and six maximums.

The opening pair’s partnership of 148 runs off 72 balls gave Mumbai Indians a strong start. Despite a few setbacks, including Rickelton’s run-out for 81, Mumbai Indians were firmly on track for victory. Skipper Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 18 helped Mumbai Indians cross the finish line with a four in the final over.
