Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district have apprehended 10 individuals involved in various cases of illegal opium poppy cultivation. Among those arrested is Ghulam Nabi Mir from Nanil, connected to a specific case under the NDPS Act. The illegal cultivation of opium poppy was uncovered during a joint verification by police, Revenue, and Agriculture departments, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
In separate incidents, two individuals, Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh alias Ama Khuja and Nisar Ahmad Beigh, were arrested by Police Station Larnoo for their involvement in NDPS Act cases. Additionally, Police Station Kokernag detained seven individuals in relation to three distinct NDPS cases linked to illegal poppy cultivation. The arrested individuals, all residents of Sagam and Panzgam areas of Kokernag, were formally taken into custody following legal procedures.
Anantnag Police emphasized their commitment to combating narcotics cultivation and encouraged the public to report any information regarding drug cultivation or trafficking promptly. As part of the ongoing 100-day-long Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, the police have intensified operations against drug smugglers, peddlers, and individuals engaged in marijuana and poppy cultivation for opium production.
