Police in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, have apprehended an individual in possession of illegal firearms and cartridges. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Nazat police station in Basirhat police district arrested Salauddin Molla on Sunday night. The recovered items include a one-shot pipe gun and seven rounds of fresh cartridges.
Authorities received information from a confidential source, leading to the arrest of Salauddin Molla in connection with illegal weapons. The suspect, a resident of Shankardah village in Nazat police station, allegedly stored the firearms and cartridges in his house. Police suspect these weapons were intended for a significant criminal activity.
Following the tip-off, a special police team conducted a surprise search operation at Salauddin’s residence. The search yielded a country-made pipe gun and seven live cartridges. Basirhat Police District Superintendent Alaknanda Bhowal confirmed the arrest, stating that legal action is underway. The accused faces charges under specific sections of the Arms Act, 1959.
An intensive investigation has been launched to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized weapons. This incident follows previous recoveries of firearms in the Sandeshkhali area, including a recent case involving a Trinamool Congress leader’s pond. The police are actively pursuing leads to uncover any potential smuggling operations.
