Police have apprehended the main suspect, Vishnu Singh Jat, in the high-profile murder case of ex-Chambal dacoit Jagan Gurjar at the Ajmer high-security jail. Vishnu was transferred from the jail to the Civil Lines police station amidst tight security due to the case’s sensitivity and tensions in surrounding districts.
Accompanied by a significant police presence, including officers like Circle Officer Shivam Joshi and Sub-Inspector Giriraj Sharma, Vishnu was taken to the police station in an armored vehicle. Authorities plan to present him before a court to request his custody for further investigation.
The motive behind the murder, whether stemming from personal enmity, a larger criminal conspiracy, or lapses in prison management, is under scrutiny by investigators. The incident occurred on June 29, with Vishnu Jat, also linked to another murder case, accused of strangling Gurjar during a confrontation.
Allegations suggest Vishnu attempted to stage the murder as a suicide by hanging the victim, but forensic evidence pointed to strangulation. Moreover, Vishnu reportedly tampered with evidence by disabling a CCTV camera before the crime, raising concerns about security protocols within the prison.
