Police in Kolkata have detained Trinamool councillor Sachin Singh from ward number 36 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on allegations of extortion. Singh, who faced accusations of post-poll violence in 2021, will appear before the Sealdah court for an extortion case following his arrest.
Another incident involved the arrest of Sudip Polle, a Trinamool councillor from ward number 123 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Chairman of Borough number 16, for extortion. Additionally, Tarun Chakraborty, a Trinamool councillor from ward 87 of Asansol Municipal Corporation, was apprehended for hoarding government relief packages in his residence.
The police discovered a significant amount of relief items meant for the underprivileged in Chakraborty’s house, along with allegations of involvement in illegal activities such as sand trading, extortion, and misusing funds meant for housing projects. The recent crackdown on illegal activities by Trinamool Congress leaders in West Bengal has led to multiple arrests of party members accused of corruption and extortion.
