Police in Srinagar district, Jammu and Kashmir, have seized immovable properties valued at Rs 4 crore from two suspected drug peddlers. The properties were attached under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The assets, totaling around Rs 3 crore, belonging to Gulam Ahmad Dar were seized by Police Station Sangam in connection with an NDPS Act case. These properties include a residential house, land, and commercial shops allegedly acquired through drug trafficking proceeds.
In a separate incident, Police Station Nowhatta confiscated a residential property valued at approximately Rs 1 crore from Mohammad Shafi Sheikh under another NDPS Act case. The property was identified as an illegally acquired asset from drug trafficking activities.
These actions were taken to prevent the concealment, transfer, or disposal of properties linked to illicit drug trade, as per the NDPS Act.
The Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, a 100-day anti-drug campaign, was launched on April 6 by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Besides legal penalties, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized additional measures like property attachment to combat drug-related crimes and urged society’s active involvement in the anti-drug campaign to safeguard future generations from substance abuse.
