The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar have swiftly solved a double murder case within 24 hours, apprehending two minor students for their alleged involvement in a brutal assault that resulted in the death of a father-son duo at Kolathia. The incident occurred during the night of June 28 and 29 when the assailants broke into the house of 54-year-old Himanshu Padhi, a local priest, and fatally attacked his son, Krushna Prasad Padhi, with iron rods.
Himanshu and his daughter, Tapashi, rushed to help Krushna but were also attacked by the intruders. The victims were rushed to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, where Krushna was declared dead on arrival, and Himanshu succumbed to his injuries on June 30. Tapashi is currently undergoing treatment. Following the incident, the police launched a thorough investigation, utilizing CCTV footage, local intelligence, and technical resources. They recovered crucial evidence, including the weapons used in the attack and clothing worn by the assailants.
The police swiftly cracked the case by arresting two juveniles, aged 16 and 17, who were charged with the double murder. According to Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh, the juveniles harbored a grudge against Krushna due to alleged harassment of a girl known to one of them. Despite claiming they intended only to use chilli powder, the evidence suggests a premeditated assault with the intent to cause harm. The police have determined that the attack was planned with the clear intention of murder.
