A police head constable in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool town lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run incident. The tragic event took place early in the morning on a national highway flyover when an unidentified vehicle struck the constable while he was jogging. Identified as Varaprasad Reddy, a 43-year-old head constable from the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP), he fell under the flyover and passed away at the scene.
The incident occurred near Bellari Chowrasta, as confirmed by the police. Following the tragedy, the authorities moved the constable’s body to the government hospital for a post-mortem examination. State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed sorrow over the loss of the dedicated police officer and extended her condolences to his family, assuring them of government support during this difficult time.
Expressing her condolences, Minister Anitha instructed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the hit-and-run incident to determine the causes and take necessary actions. She also prayed for peace for Varaprasad Reddy’s soul and strength for his grieving family. This unfortunate event marks the second time in three days that a policeman has lost his life in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh.
In a separate incident on July 12 in Prakasam district, a police constable lost his life and three others sustained injuries due to a car accident. The tragic event occurred in Ongole town when a car driver lost control, hitting the constable who was riding a bicycle. The constable, Mariyadas, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while three others suffered minor injuries as the car collided with an autorickshaw and a two-wheeler.
