Police in Bihar’s Gopalganj district have successfully disrupted a significant criminal scheme by apprehending a notorious liquor smuggler and seizing illegal firearms. The swift action taken by the authorities has garnered attention in the region. The arrest occurred following specific intelligence received by Hathua Station House Officer (SHO) Shoaib Alam on December 25.
A police source revealed that Vikas Kumar, a well-known liquor mafia figure, was planning a serious criminal act at his residence with accomplices. The information indicated that he possessed illegal firearms and ammunition. Vikas Kumar, who has a history of involvement in liquor smuggling cases, was already out on bail at the time of his arrest.
A special police team, led by Inspector and SHO Shoaib Alam, was promptly assembled to address the situation. Despite challenging weather conditions, including dense fog and poor visibility, the police conducted a late-night raid at Attwa Durg village. During the operation, Vikas Kumar was apprehended on-site, while his associates managed to escape.
Authorities recovered a loaded country-made pistol, a live cartridge, and another country-made pistol without a magazine during the raid. Hathua Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anand Mohan Gupta provided insights into the operation, highlighting the successful arrest of the accused and the seizure of illegal arms. Gupta emphasized Vikas Kumar’s criminal history and the multiple cases against him in Gopalganj and Siwan districts.
The police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining associates involved in the criminal conspiracy. The timely intervention by law enforcement averted a potential threat to public safety. The law-and-order situation in the area is currently stable, with heightened police vigilance in place. The operation is being hailed as a significant achievement for the Gopalganj police, showcasing their proactive stance in preventing criminal activities.
