After the recent elimination of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) top commander Saifullah, police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district are planning a broader crackdown on the ground network supporting terrorism. The J&K Police and security forces have identified a network of overground workers (OGWs) providing aid to terrorists. Some government employees are among the OGWs offering food, shelter, and logistics to terrorists in the district.
These OGWs have previously organized feasts for JeM terrorists, with security forces now scrutinizing photos of terrorists with civilian backgrounds. While some individuals assisted terrorists under pressure, others did so voluntarily. Those identified as OGWs may face legal action under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and some could be detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
In response to successful counter-terror operations, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps has eliminated seven Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in Kishtwar over the past 326 days. Major General A.P.S. Bal highlighted the significance of these operations, emphasizing the continuous neutralization of terrorists in the region. The recent crackdown aims to dismantle the support network facilitating militancy in Kishtwar, with a focus on disrupting Pakistan-backed terror groups.
Authorities anticipate that the ongoing investigation could reveal a broader support network associated with Pakistan-backed terror groups in the region. The J&K Police and security forces are engaged in aggressive anti-terrorist operations in the hinterland.
