Srinagar, Aug 9 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district said on Sunday that they have attached property worth nearly Rs 70 lakh in a 2008 terror case in which the court also issued an arrest warrant against the second accused.

Baramulla Police said earlier in the day, “As part of its ongoing crackdown on elements involved in unlawful and anti-national activities, Baramulla Police on Saturday secured the attachment of immovable property worth over Rs 69.82 lakh and also obtained an arrest warrant in a 2008 terror-linked case.”

Police also said that the NIA Court, Sopore, passed an attachment order in Case FIR No. 02/2008 registered at the Police Station Chandoosa under Sections 2/3 EIMCO Act, 120-B & 121 RPC, and 13 UAPA.

The attached property comprises 12 Kanal, one Marla and 73 Sq. Ft. of land belonging to accused Parvaiz Ahmad Famda, son of Yaar Mohammad Famda, a resident of Kawhar Bala, Chandoosa.

“The land has been valued at Rs 69,82,550, and the valuation certificate has been taken on record by the court,” the police said.

In a related development in the same case, the NIA Court, Sopore, also issued an arrest warrant against another accused, Abdul Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Rajpora, Chandoosa. Police said the action underscores its commitment to pursue pending cases to their logical conclusion and bring those involved in subversive activities to justice in accordance with law.

The J&K Police have been carrying out aggressive operations against terrorists, including attaching properties created out of funds generated through terror activities.

These operations target terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers. The coordinated operations are aimed at dismantling the entire support system of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir so that the UT gets rid of the scourge of terrorism.

The terror network has been using drug smugglers, peddlers and those involved in hawala rackets, as it is believed that the funds generated by these unlawful operations are finally used to sustain terrorism in the UT.
