Police in Gujarat’s Sanand conducted a raid at a private weekend home near Ahmedabad, detaining 81 people for allegedly hosting a liquor and hookah party in violation of state laws. The raid took place at Nirvana Greens Weekend Home following specific intelligence received by the police.
The gathering was disguised as a 25th wedding anniversary celebration for ‘AV’, with numerous guests invited to the event. The function was held at a luxury farmhouse with multiple food counters and 11 tables set up, where liquor, hookahs, and a celebratory cake were reportedly being served.
During the surprise raid supervised by senior officers, police found liquor and hookahs being served, leading to the detention of all attendees for further legal procedures. Among the 81 detained individuals, most were aged 35 to 40 and above, with many from affluent backgrounds.
Police seized a significant amount of evidence from the premises, including liquor bottles, hookahs, glasses, hookah flavors, luxury vehicles, and mobile phones. The total value of the seized property was estimated at around Rs 2.91 crore. All detained persons underwent medical examinations, with women released on notice and men kept in custody for legal action.
An offence has been registered under the Prohibition Act, and an investigation is ongoing to identify the party organizer, weekend home ownership, and the source of liquor and hookah materials. Further actions will be taken based on medical reports and preliminary inquiries.
